Muraenidae live in caves, crevices or coral reefs and are usually hunt only at night. A few species are poisonous. A characteristic feature of moray eels is, in addition to their eel-like body, the 4 nostrils, 2 of which can be found at the tip of the snout and 2 on the front edges of the eyes.
